Madhav National Park is a wildlife sanctuary likewise abundant in avifauna. Sakhya Sagar, Madhav Sagar, and George Castle are the famous sights here. Your visit promises to be a very invigorating experience.

About Madhav National Park

Madhav National Park is located in the district of Shivpuri in the Gwalior region at Madhya Pradesh in India. It was put up in 1959 with a total area of 156 sq. km. This attraction is open all throughout the year. The park imposes the protection from which the area gets pleasure when it is the clandestine shooting reserve in the Maharaja of Gwalior.

The Park was Gwalior s hunting and amusement resort in earlier times. The Jhansi Shivpuri Road and the Agra Bombay road flank the Madhav National Park. A drive throughout the park having a glimpse of the animals is a very invigorating experience. The plant life in this recreational area is mixed with arid deciduous woodland up to some extent of poor quality. The most excellent time to visit Madhav National Park is from October to February.

Petrol four wheeler vehicle or four wheel drive vehicle that uses diesel unused for more than five years is the means of travelling inside the Madhav National Park. It is a major tourist attraction if only for this aspect. It is also effortlessly accessible. The nearby airport is at Gwalior and railway station closest is at Jhansi. The closest bus stands are located at Shivpuri and Jhansi.

The park is a sanctuary for wildlife. It remains open all throughout the year and shows off the huge numbers of Indian gazelle, chinkara, and chital. The major species of wild animals that inhabit here are the deer and the chital. Other species include the nilgai, wild boar, leopard Panthera pardus, chausingha or four horned antelope, jackal Canis aureus, sambar, sloth bear, tiger, monkey, blackbuck, Tiger Panthera tigris, striped Hyena, jungle cat Felis chaus, common langur, blue bull, and the leopard. Khair, Kerdhai, Dhawda, Tendu, and Palash are few of the plants that can be found here also.

The attraction is likewise abundant in avifauna. A synthetic lake called Chandpatha is the home of the migratory pochard, pintail, mallard, geese, teal, and gadwall every winter. The site wherein the forest trail crosses the stony watercourse, gushing from the squander barrier is an excellent location for bird watching.

Species common in this spot are the large pied wagtail, Indian pond heron, red wattled lapwing, and white breasted kingfisher. The avifauna of the park also comprises of the cormorant, white ibis, Indian python, spot bill duck, white breasted kingfisher, grey heron, laggard falcon, painted stork, purple sunbird, golden oriole, whistling teals, marsh or mugger crocodile, monitor lizard, and Asian paradise flycatcher.

Famous Sights in Madhav National Park
In 1918, Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Sagar lakes were created on the Manier River. These are two significant biodiversity sustaining systems in the Madhav National Park aside from several seasonal and perennial nallahs and streams Sakhya Sagar Lake is located on the border of forests of the park. Sailing Club is a boat club situated on the seaboard of the lake. Sakhya Sagar Lake is the home of mixture of reptiles.

In 1911, George Castle was constructed by Jiyaji Rao Scindia (Scindia ruler of the highest point). This castle is situated inside the National Park. This was meant for tiger shooting practice of King George the fifth of the United Kingdom. This is since King George the fifth passed by that path during his trip to India. The sight of downhill surroundings and the lake as you watch from this spot, especially at sundown is exceptional.
